Dr. Brian Smith, Amy Jordan and Noelle Pinkard of Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), will provide an update on the 757 Express Regional Transit System (RTS). This project 13 backbone routes that traverse major commuting corridors that connect the highest densities of people and jobs in the region. These routes also feature more direct service than other route classifications, which contributes to making these routes simple to understand and more efficient, saving travel time and operating costs compared to more circuitous routes.
They will also provide an overview of HRT’s System Optimization Plan (SOP) that will evaluate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the local bus transit network to better support the 757 Express network. The SOP will support the long-term operational sustainability of HRT by allowing the agency to better focus its resources.
Lastly, they will highlight HRT’s efforts toward the development of a comprehensive report addressing long-term, sustainable, dedicated capital and operating funding for multi-modal transportation needs across the region. This project will follow through on strategic efforts that were pursued during the 2024 General Assembly Session. The work and the schedule of this study will run in parallel with similar efforts occurring in Northern Virginia leading up the 2025 and 2026 General Assembly sessions. REGISTER
