November is here, and my year as VPAR President is winding down. This has been a great year, and thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President for 2014. Some of the highlights were the large turnouts at the OSC Awards Banquet in March and at the Realtor Fest Trade Show in September, General Membership Meetings, Broker Forums, and monthly Socials at various restaurants on the Peninsula. VPAR offered numerous educational offerings including continuing education opportunities for our members and the always popular Lunch and Learn and Night Court courses. I enjoyed participating in our new member orientations, and I am happy to report that our membership number has increased. Our Peninsula Young Professionals Network hosted several classes and networking events. RPAC surpassed its fundraising goal. Thanks to all our members who supported this important effort. The Charitable Foundation hosted a successful fundraising golf tournament in the spring and has made donations to various charities in our local area throughout the year. I also congratulate our Board of Directors, committee chairs, vice chairs, and committee members who have worked hard and accomplished so much this year. Thank you all for your service and for volunteering for your Association. Thank you to all our sponsors and affiliate members for your continued support and participation. Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” We could not accomplish all that we do at VPAR without the efforts made by our volunteers. I encourage all VPAR members to join committees for 2015 and get involved today.
I also want to thank the VPAR staff who have been such a wonderful resource and offered so much support to me throughout the year. Thanks to Susan Gaston, who worked hard as our Government Affairs Director, and for also serving as our Interim CEO from December to May. Cindy Anderson and Jo Daly have done a great job all year long helping coordinate our programs and keeping the office running smoothly. Jim Wetzel joined our staff as our new CEO in May. Jim has settled in quickly to his new role, and we are lucky to have him leading our team at VPAR. I share the many successes of 2014 with our leadership team, members, and staff, and this year has truly been a collaborative effort.
We have several events coming up in November that you will want to attend. The PYPN Work-group is putting on a Realtor Safety Class with Julie Greene on November 13th from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at VPAR. Also, Hampton 101 is being offered on November 13th from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. There will be updates on community development, economic development, schools, housing, and a Public Safety Luncheon with Police Chief Terry Suit. The afternoon will include a bus tour.
