Realtors® devote countless hours to volunteering and improving their local communities. Over the last seven years, Realtor® Magazine’s Good Neighbor Society has helped Realtors® grow and transform their charitable efforts through the Volunteering Works Grant and Mentoring Program. This program, which pairs expert mentors with Realtors® who want to expand and improve their community service outreach, is now seeking entries.
“Realtors® lead the way to neighborhood revitalization and working to make our communities better places to live,” said National Association of Realtors® President Chris Polychron, executive broker of 1st Choice Realty in Hot Springs, Ark. “Through the Volunteering Works program, we are proud to recognize Realtors® who are trying to make a difference by supporting them with the guidance and funding they need.”
Realtors® who work on small-scale charitable efforts with growth potential are encouraged to apply. The Good Neighbor Society will give the five Volunteering Works recipients a year of one-on-one mentoring from a member of the Good Neighbor Society and a $1,000 grant as seed money to help implement improvements in their community program.
Recipients must be an active member of NAR and will be selected based on:
- their dedication to their communities through volunteer work
- the potential for their charitable work to be expanded or improved with the help of a mentor
- their ability to identify specific challenges they would like to address with the help of a mentor, and have goals for the future of their community service project
The Good Neighbor Award winners, who mentor the Volunteering Works recipients, on average spend more than 20 hours a week on volunteer work and have built some of the most successful charitable organizations in the country. Since 2000, there have been more than 150 winners and honorable mentions of the Good Neighbor Award.
Volunteering Works is funded by The Stuart & Jill Siegel Charitable Foundation. For a Volunteering Works entry form, visit www.Realtor.org/gna and click on “Nominate” The entry deadline is Feb. 27, 2015. Recipients will be notified in April.
