Working in real estate involves risk and, unfortunately, that risk takes many forms. As an industry, we collectively work very hard to promote safety awareness among our members. We are fully committed to educating REALTORS® about potential threats and providing them with resources to protect themselves.

I urge all REALTORS® to honor Beverly Carter by keeping safe and looking out for each other.”

President Elect

My name is Andy Cohen. I have been a Realtor since 1988. Prior to that I spent seventeen years in the foodservice industry, managing cafeterias, restaurants and bars. I also spent five years as a morning radio personality. I am currently an Associate Broker with Abbitt Realty Company, LLC.

I am from Teaneck, NJ, where I graduated from Teaneck High School. I attended The George Washington University, in Washington, DC, where I earned a B.A. in political science and sociology. As a Realtor, I have earned the GRI and CRS designations, as well as the designations of CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist) and MCSP (Master Certified Sales Professional) from the National Association of Homebuilders.

I have served our Association as a member of the Charitable Foundation Board of Directors, including a term as president, as a member of the new homes committee, and, this year, as a member of the Board of Directors. I was honored in 1997, and again in 2012, to be recognized with the Realtor Community Service award. I have also served, for the past eight years, as a member of the Peninsula Housing and Builders Board of Directors, and have served five terms as Chair of the Sales and Marketing Council.

In our community, I served as a youth basketball coach, as a trustee of the Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, including three terms as treasurer and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, including two terms as president. I look forward to serving the members of VPAR as, together, we meet the challenge of remaining vibrant, and relevant, in a rapidly changing technological environment.

John G. “Chip” Dicks, Manager of FutureLaw, served as an elected member of the Virginia General Assembly during the 1980s. Since leaving the Legislature, Chip has represented associations and businesses on administrative, legislative and regulatory matters before state government agencies and the General Assembly. He has substantial experience in representing developers on a variety of land use applications in a number of localities in Virginia. Chip has expertise in the laws and regulations affecting billboard signs and in the field of landlord tenant and fair housing laws. Chip is a seasoned professional who helps the client identify and refine strategic goals, and then establish an implementation plan to meet the client’s time frame for completion of a project.
